Hibou and Stichting ParkinsonFonds jointly introduce a world first: an AI-driven digital human based on James Parkinson, the namesake of the neurological condition. This virtual expert was developed to make information about Parkinson's disease more accessible to a broad audience.
Information based on 25 years of scientific knowledge
The digital human is trained on more than 25 years of knowledge and publications from Stichting ParkinsonFonds. Users can ask him questions about Parkinson's – from symptoms and the progression of the disease to insights from recent research. The answers are clear and free of medical jargon, ensuring that everyone can understand them.
A supplement to the doctor, not a replacement
Although the technology is advanced, the virtual expert is emphatically not a replacement for a doctor. The expert does not provide medical advice. However, he offers an accessible way to quickly learn more about Parkinson's, which helps patients and their loved ones be better prepared for conversations with their healthcare provider.
Accessibility and reach: 24/7 in 25 languages
An important feature of the virtual Parkinson's expert is his accessibility. The expert is available 24/7 via the Stichting ParkinsonFonds website and speaks more than 25 languages. This makes it possible not only to better serve existing target groups, but also to engage younger generations – a group increasingly affected by Parkinson's.
AI as a strategic communication tool
According to John Meulemans, partner at Hibou, this project shows how AI can be deployed in a responsible and impactful way for social communication. “We are constantly looking for ways to integrate technology into effective communication. This digital human is a great example of that: innovative, understandable, and scalable.”
In terms of design, the digital human is based on James Parkinson and looks realistic as a contemporary version. That visual element contributes to user engagement and enhances the credibility of the interaction.
More than technology: social relevance
This project demonstrates how AI can contribute to the public dialogue on healthcare. Where AI is often seen as hype, this virtual expert proves its social value. It is a tangible example of how technology can be used to share knowledge and create connection.
Available online since April 30, 2025
The virtual Parkinson's expert can be found on the Stichting ParkinsonFonds website since April 30. Visitors can directly ask him questions there and receive answers in a way that suits today's world.
